Scion Nonprofit Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to lead the search for a Director of Prospect Research on behalf of our client, a dedicated organization committed to building awareness and securing support for its mission of advancing groundbreaking research, fostering innovative educational initiatives, and driving key strategic priorities. This full-time, flexible hybrid position is available immediately for qualified candidates based in New York City.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Director of Prospect Research will collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer, regional development teams, development operations, and other national functions to drive success across fundraising initiatives. The Director of Prospect Research will design and implement a comprehensive prospect and donor pipeline program. This position will be critical in strengthening fundraising efforts and achieving organizational goals. The ideal candidate will deeply understand charitable giving, nonprofit organizations, and higher education, leveraging industry best practices to enhance prospect management and donor engagement strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Continuously identify and evaluate high-potential donors by assessing their capacity, interest, and giving history.
  • Collaborate with fundraisers to develop effective engagement strategies for prospective donors.
  • Ensure all research adheres to ethical standards and maintains quality in all outputs.
  • Evaluate donor-giving patterns and characteristics, including demographics, employment, board involvement, and giving history.
  • Create accurate profiles, reports, and analyses on individuals, corporations, and foundations with major gift potential.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of donor and prospect data.
  • Assist in refining and maintaining strategic, well-balanced donor portfolios for AFHU.
  • Develop and manage a capacity rating system in Raiserâ?™s Edge to align donor strategies with fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with development teams, operations, and leadership to share research insights and co-create effective donor engagement strategies.
  • Oversee donor database integrity, ensuring accurate record creation, relationship linking, updates for records, and credit management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelorâ?™s degree in a related field required, with at least six years of relevant experience.
  • Ambitious and collaborative, with a strong ability to lead and achieve results.
  • Skilled in data analysis, report design, and synthesizing information effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently and thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • Enthusiastic about building and improving systems, with a proactive approach to assessing and enhancing processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong commitment to data privacy, confidentiality, and resource prioritization.
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Advanced project management skills, capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Adept at contributing ideas and implementing process improvements.
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Raiserâ?™s Edge or similar CRM systems.
  • Skilled in utilizing research tools and resources such as Wealth-X, LexisNexis, SEC, and FEC records.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
In addition to a competitive salary range of $120,000 to $135,000, the comprehensive benefits package includes medical and dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, a 403(b)-retirement savings plan, and access to the TransitChek program.
